Shortchanged Scherzo: a Fleeced Fandango   (2023)   7.5 min. 

for clarinet (doubling on bass clarinet), bassoon, trumpet, percussion, 2 violins, viola, cello, and contrabass
 

* Scherzos and Fandangos are lively musical forms (or in the case of a Fandango, a dance), that are usually in some sort of triple meter. However, this piece, which is in 5/8, has been shortchanged, or fleeced, of one beat in each measure.
* MTNA National Composition Competition winner, 2024
