Shortchanged Scherzo: a Fleeced Fandango for
Orchestra

* Scherzos and Fandangos are lively musical forms (or in the case of a Fandango, a dance), that are usually in some sort of triple meter. However, this piece, which is in 5/8, has been shortchanged, or fleeced, of one beat in each measure.

Main Line Locomotive: a Car Knocker's Chronicle   (2024)   3 min.

* a sonic depiction of a locomotive train, spotlighting Car Knockers - railroad repairmen and inspectors that check the soundness of railroad equipment by tapping or knocking on the equipment. Percussive and rhythmic elements illustrate a Car Knocker in action.

* inspired by one of the world's rarest insects, an endangered species that's only found in southeastern Nebraska.

* a six-movement tone poem; each movement is about a different order of Arachnid: I. Scorpiones (Scorpions), II. Opiliones (Harvestmen, or Daddy Long-Legs), III. Uropygi (Vinegaroons), IV. Amblypygi (Tailless Whip-Scorpions) V. Solifugae (Camel Spiders), and VI. Araneae (Spiders).
